1/100 MG AMX-004-3 Qubeley Mk-II

10 June 2006

I sanded alot alot of parts to straighten out the lines i’ve cut away. Its quite tedious really. This seems like the first and last time i’m doing THIS much cutting and sanding. I’ve done some of the lighting and soldered the LEDs together so that it slots into the wing easily. Going to wire all the LEDs to a single battery in the body. No ideas for a switch yet.

Best Friends

These have been my best friends for the past week or two, along with the tub of water i use to catch all the dust.

Mesh Wire

Mesh Wire from Sim Lim Tower (Singapore). Its one of those AV cables. Since its 3-in-1 I got 3 meters of this stuff by buying one meter of the cable. Its about $7 SGD ($4.35 USD).

Well, got a little little bit done today. Filled up some gaps with tamiya epoxy putty, Added some putty to make the sharpened tips of the knees, nose and toes(hey! it rhymes!). Nothing much. I’ll try to sand it down tomorrow. I’ve just been held up by the Strike freedom and the Infinite Justice. The Strike Freedom has hit a wall, The Mr Super clear coat i sprayed went all frosty on me and i have to repaint alot but thats another story. On with the pictures!

overview qubeley

An overview of my table today! just did major packing and reorganization. Felt I wanted to do this to regain my sanity after the Strike Freedom disaster. Was pretty upset about that.

Motor Coil

The motor coil and the various soon-to-be pointy tips. I tried to do a minus mould thingy by sticking a flat screw driver into the soft epoxy. doesn’t look sharp enough, but it’ll just be a small detail i’ll try to fix.

Qubeley Copper Tubing

The copper wire. This one is cut to give some space for the motor coil. The coil was also too thick so i had to carefully dremel the plastic to make it thinner and give the coil more room betwen the armor and the internals.

Qubley Copper Tubing

Both Wing Binders. I was thinking if i wanted to preserve the Copper colour since it was so pretty. But i had no idea how i should attach it safely after i was done with the rest of the painting so i’m just going to prime it and then paint some magic alclad onto it to get it back to this nice colour.

Qubeley Detol Talcum Powder

Powder is very important when working with 2 part epoxies. It prevents your hand from sticking and getting gunked up with all the putty. The dettol Smell of this thing is overwhelming though, get some nice smelling powder if you ever do!

Qubeley Piston

Pistons i saw from the plamo forums. Its jut a tube inside another tube. As you can see, the lower one is polished and the upper one is not. I’m now wondering how to preserve its shiny-ness because it keeps getting tarnished after a while. Will attempt a clear coat to see how it preserves the shiny newness.

Qubeley Piston

Another brighter shot.

Qubeley Mesh Wire in Heat Sinks

I drilled a hole through all the grills/heat sink-like things in the front of the qubeley and wanted to go with a tube. I had some mesh wire on hand though and so i stuck it in and decided on it. Usually heat sinks have a tube in the middle so thats where i got this idea. One thing i’m not sure of is if the plates are even a heat sink! haha.. but whatever.. (edit: okay, after some thought, it can’t be a heat sink in the vast nothing-ness of space. There’s nothing to conduct to! :?)

Qubeley Mesh Wire in Heat Sink

Another (less clear) shot from the front.

That concludes it for today, nothing much. I’ll be workng on arranging my sister’s wedding music soon for a small orchestra group and won’t have time for these things. Prioritise prioritise! :?
