Non-scale Kogepan!

I’m sure you’ve heard of Kogepan or at least seen him.

Check out his life story as told by him…

My Story

kogepan1
I am Kogepan. I was from a bakery shop in Hokkaido. My bakery shop is very famous in Japan because the red bead buns that it churns out are so delicious that only 20 of such type are made each day. I was supposed to be a delicious red bean bun too, but an unfortunate accident had happened…
On the day I was supposed to be brought into the oven, I was thrilled because the moment has finally arrived for me to become what most breads have always wanted to be - a high quality red bean bread. As I continue to ponder on that, I began to giggle in excitement. kogepan2
kogepan3 When the baker began to take me and my friends out from the oven, I was ecstatic because everything had went smoothly. However, my happiness is somehow short-lived when the baker accidentally tilted the pan and…
I fell back into the oven and disappeared into a cloud of smoke. I looked around for my friends but they were not there. I was very afraid.I was getting cooked again and there was a burnt smell seeping out from me. I thought to myself “Somebody please come and save me!” kogepan4
kogepan5 Nobody noticed that I was missing and I waited in the oven for another 30 minutes. My skin was no longer a golden color and had turned dark brown. I smelt awful. Finally, the baker saw me and took me out from the oven, but he did not place me back on the shelves where the other red bean buns were.
I am a burnt bread and certainly, nobody wants to buy me. I felt lonely and upset. I thought to myself that my life as a bread was very meaningless. I was so disillusion that my eyes turned white. kogepan6
kogepan7 The other red bean buns always mock at me, calling me awful names. The baker did not even pay attention to me at all. I think the whole world hates me.
I decided to run away from home. Nobody will care anyway. I shall run to a place where nobody exists and nobody will make fun of me. kogepan8
kogepan9 I spent most of my time smoking and drinking milk as beer. I became very depressed and pessimistic.
After a few days, I finally came to my senses, and decided not to live my life like this anymore. The bakery is still my home after all. kogepan10
kogepan11 Back at the bakery I decided to read a book titled “How to become a delicious bread” to improve myself. I believed that if I continue to work hard, I will eventually attain my dream of becoming a delicious red bean bun.
But every time I see the other red bean buns I lose hope and become jealous again. I always lecture them about the life of being a bread and because of that, all of them were afraid of me. kogepan12

Other Characters

Kuriimupan Kuriimupan (creamy bread) is also a burnt bread like me. We are very good friends and we always drink beer (milk) together and often run away from home.
Kireipan They are called Kireipan, as known as the pretty breads. They are delicious and unlike me, they are not burnt. I am always jealous of them.
Sumipan My friend Sumipan is even more burnt than me. He is called the charcoal bread and he is also my very good friend.
Ichigopan Ichigopan is the latest addition to the family. He is the strawberry cream bread and unlike the other bread, he is pink in color.

Plagerised from here

Well, this cute disillusioned guy is just asking to be made into a nice figure. I used normal no-need-to-bake kind of clay to shape it. Its getting all cracked on me, but nothing more clay and some sanding wont fix i guess.

I got some work done, sanded and sanded. Sigh.. now i know why they sculpt while its wet. ITS AS HARD AS A ROCK. But nvm, some 130 Grit paper di the job pretty quickly. Its also very powdery when you sand. My shirt is covered with powder-form clay. Only one pic to show today, i haven’t done anything else. I only sanded itsmooth and primed it a little to check for blemishes. Its pretty okay so far. Camera was out of juice so i used my nokia 3230 to take the picture.

As you can see the milk bottle arm is missing. I’ll work on tha in my free time and glue it on together with the milk bottle.

Its sorta painted: The body is an even brown and facial features have been drawn in. Its terribly un-smooth. I’m hoping that a flat coat will make it look abit better. After that followed pinning of the head and body. Its pretty simple. Just grab a drill and drill holes where the pins hold the body together. I’ve not enough time to do some shading on the top of the head and on its extremities.

Blurry picture 2. Its from a nokia 3230, can’t help it. My dearest olympus C-5050 is in my brother’s room.

Okay, that’s its for now! going to have to make a base again with grass…

Today didn’t study much for my upcoming exam on saturday. Just spent time to finish up this guy over here. Flat coated him and added a cup plus the word “milk” on the milk bottle. I realise that its a cartoony like featureless bottle but that good enough for me. Took pictures of him on a mat of grass. Its pretty nice stuff.. so smooth and even. Like golf course grass.

Used the plastic plug cover for electrical appliances to make a oval cup.

Working on my sister’s table today (she’s married and staying elsewhere! haha..)

Drilled holes to pin everything to the base afterwhich i took all of the brass rods out to snap a photo. Was posing him and making sure he wouldn’t roll over backwards when this happened.. 8O I dropped the light I use to light my models. Argh, knew it was bound to happen sooner or later.

Never mind, don’t waste a good opportunity to snap some photos and teach some lessons.

Here I am in the next few pictures snapping the bulb at a LARGE APERTURE setting (F1.8). The smaller the number, the bigger the aperture. See how only some of the photo is in focus depth-wise? This is DEPTH OF FIELD. Meaning, how much of the picture depth-wise you are able to keep in focus at once.

Focusing in the middle

Copy of kogepan (16).JPG

Focusing at the back leaving the front out of focus. If the Aperture is small (F 8.0), everything would be in focus at once. Sorry, no photos to illustrate, I had to clean it up before little bits of glass get all over the place.

Copy of kogepan (20).JPG

Here it is completed without the base, which is just a wooden thing I’m sticking the grass on. Nothing fancy, just simple. clean and cartoony.
