Makes Sense?

“It takes a lot of courage to have complete trust”

I just saw that on someone’s facebook status. Short of saying its stupid, it’s actually closer to completely doesn’t make sense at all while looking profound.

The truth is, trust is built up over time and following that is knowledge of the person and a sense of whether that person is deserving of trust. When a person is responsible with another’s trust, it doesn’t take alot of courage at all to trust him/her. When the person is scum, trusting him takes stupidity, not courage.

Why do we trust our Jesus for our eternal life?

I write these things to you who believe in the name of the Son of God that you may know that you have eternal life.

1 John 5:13

Because we know from the bible he is able and willing.

The Love of God

Was listening to the Herbster’s “The Love of God” today and this line caught my ear

When men who here refuse to pray..

then I thought.. oh man that’s me! and it makes me sad. Alot sad.

Thankfully its not the end of the song! Because

God’s love so sure, shall still endure,
All measureless and strong;
Redeeming grace to Adam’s race—
The saints’ and angels’ song.

And its not just good to have his grace to rely on.. its imperative that I do.. haha.. so, does this describe you? If yes.. then lets start! if no.. then praise God for his grace so evident in your faithful prayer.

Getting Well

I had a great time being sick. I got so much rest the drowsy medicine had no effect on me and I probably managed to catch up on all the lost sleep I missed  since the beginning of the year. Other than the terrible body pains and complete confusion I was in for 2 days, the 39 degree fever burned through 2 kg of me.. not bad huh. Anyway I decided to get moving with my FYP again cos I’m quite behind now..

Just had some stray thoughts about stuff. About Colossians 2:6-23, 1 Samuel 16:7, Matthew 23:27. All this not really in regard to how free we are or what we can do but rather how blind we are to our own state and to others’ state around us because we apply our own set of measurements and metrics to measure another person instead of valuing what God values. How do you measure the immeasurable? and see the insides only God can see? Do we only see what we want to see? The way we only see the good things in our friends and the bad things in the “cannot-make-it cases”? See how someone has hurt us instead of seeing our own over-sensitivity and unforgivness? Hmmm. Time to put on some “Jesus glasses” and see ourselves (and others) how Jesus would have seen them. Here are some things he saw very differently for starters.

All You Need is (God’s) Love

Well, not God’s love in the salvation and life context but in living out God’s love through you very own life. The most common forms of expressing love which I miss out commonly is being patient, gentle and kind. Those are the very things love is made of and I find myself running short of everything when I do not consciously acknowledge or simply forget that I am unable to do these things without plugging myself into God’s reservoir of Love.

Man does not have enough Love to share with anyone else, even with those closest to him. Sure, you might have enough for a while but when the going get tough it runs out.

Remember today to plug yourself into God’s Love and reserves by acknowledging your limits and by appropriating God’s love (making it your own) so that you will be able to shower it on others the way he did on us.

Relevance

Interesting,  I was just listening to some CCM and here came this line:

What this world needs is for us to stop hiding behind our relevance
Blending in so well that people can’t see the difference
And it’s the difference that sets the world free

Besides the last line being technically wrong (what it alludes to is really quite right), what I thought was interesting is the fact that they also understand that relevance should not be an excuse to be worldly. Which leads to the next, greater, more cantankerous problem of defining worldly. Which really needs a post in itself. Maybe another time..

The Firstborn of Creation

So interesting that the bible gives more insight into creation. Not just of the earth but also heavenly beings. Colossians 1:15 says Jesus is the firstborn of all creation! The “image of our invisible God” and everything else was created by him and through him. Interesting. Colossians 1:16-17 says he is “before all things” and everythign is held together because of him. Awesome in the true sense of the word?

Will Power

No, its not about my friend William at all. I just read something amusing.

“The thing about human willpower, is that there is no power in the will”

Haha.. how true. I was finding out what was the “old” commandment since Jesus gave a “new” commandment. Turns out that John said in 1 John 2:7 its well.. actually old and not anything new because its already been commanded in Leviticus 19:18. So why did Jesus say it was new? Some possibilities include

  1. He didn’t know about leviticus. no la.. c’mon that can’t be right.. but I wrote it here to show how our minds skip past what we believe to be obvious when it might not be truely obvious.
  2. He meant the way we carry out the command would be new, in the spirit and not by the many rules which the many “interpretations” of the bible commands were placed by the pharasees – all which rely on human willpower.
  3. He meant that the command was always new and fresh despite being old.. timeless in a sense.

So there it is.. the Old commandment.

Sunday School

Haha, I think many a person have gone through this road I’m going now and I’m sure many paths have been walked which all lead to the same end of the how why and what of sunday school. Was going to power my way through timothy for FBI and the first chapter had me already. 1 Timothy 1:5-7 is what paul tells Timothy in regard to teaching God’s word to others. The goal of the instruction is a “pure heart”, “good conscience” and “sincere faith”, straying from which will result in fruitless discussion and speculation and finally, teachers who teach and assert confidently without knowing what they are talking about (!). Eating with ZG now.. haha.. maybe more later.

Dear Friends

There will come a day when all men are apostate and the earth is completely out to destroy us. When the spirit of God is taken away and the earth is left to the whims and fancies of the beast. Where horrors unimaginable are released seal by seal and when free reign is given to the devil. That day will come and it is a day for the unregenerate to despair completely.

This is not that day. Neither are we unregenerate (on all sides of this matter). That day will never come for us as brothers and sisters, do not feel hopeless or trapped today.

This is the time to persevere. Even if 1000 other emails follow and after that each one breeds another 10000 more. Even if we have to hold another ten thousand 7 hour sessions, we must press on in the face of unrelenting, baseless and wrong applications of bible truths. There is no heresy here (other than the Jude thing.. which I’m sure is just plain ignorance). Truths that are still truths but do not apply in our situation or are mistakenly or knowingly maliciously applied to fellow brothers, sisters, children and friends due to a belief and spreading of wrong fact about the matter either mistakenly, intentionally or otherwise.

Any one person’s word is not enough! Don’t believe ANYTHING unless it confronts you in the face and you have to doubt your reason or sanity in order not to believe it.

Do not be fooled by your own heart. The morning will come and the night is not endless.

Exercise your Faith, Work your Love and Let your Hope Endure!

God’s peace be in your heart,  if its not you better seek it out.
