Coldplay
Been listening to quite a few coldplay songs over the past week. Their MTVs (some) are really bizarre (not in any wrong way), thought provoking and their songs are at the very least, cryptic. I’ve heard that they are supposed to be kinda one of those christian band things. Thing is that they’ve never made a statement about it anyway and nobody really knows much about it for a fact unlike other bands like jars of clay or (from eons ago in 1972) petra. These bands (except for petra, I’ve never heard them okay, they are really quite a generic pop and rock thing.. “God gave rock and roll to you” like.. what?! nvm..), were so different from the mainstream pop and rock industry in some weird way which distinguished them from the pack. Honestly even if I’ve never heard it before, I’d be able to tell if a song was written and sung by them.
Anyway, I bring this up because I wonder if I will ever lose this attraction for the music of the world. Its never gone away! for so many years after not listening exclusively to it. Its kinda like.. just there. And though I know alot of peope who will disagree, music is really sometimes ambigious. Just the music, not the musicians and stuff. Of course, due to the fact the music and musician can hardly be divorced from each other (see paragraph above) I guess the answer here is clear enough for me at least. And of course, just like a cup of coke light, which tastes great but has totally zero nutrition.. this music even if totally benign and sung by harmless people would still be worthless. Ah.. but we still consume coke light and pay good money for it. But coke light is more amoral than coldplay. haha.. Okay la, don’t come find me and say hor.. I’m deciding to put it down. Too many of these songs makes my mind focus incorrectly and engages the brain in un-needed activity.
Anyway.. I just feel weird and pensive because of the above I believe and I’ve got alot alot of work over this weekend. Sat is stuffed except for the afternoon cos of FBI in morning and cantata in evening, sunday is stuffed by default and monday is stuffed right till the late night as well due to cantata after school. Monday I have a project report due, wed I have a difficult test and next monday I need to finish my 25% project, the one with the mad assembly programming.
I’m kinda lost in thoughts. Skipped the prayer part of prayer meeting cos my mom was tired and wanted to go home. I have to say I was hoping to meet up with music com to pray but david and eunice never come then everyone else just went on as usual. I’m down but not out I guess and just wanted some familiar people around.
Well, I was doing some research on the christian rock thingum and found an interesting documentary on youtube which comes in 3 parts about the Jesus Freaks (A band nobody should ever have the misfortune of listening to) and some summer gathering thing where lotsa bands come play. Theres also this guy/band called stryper. Oh man, it reminds me of marylin manson la! sicko man.. I mean, he renamed cos his satanic pact required him to do so. Thats why he has a girlie name. Anyway, none of that was funny to me at least.. So, on with the documentary. One thing I find cool is the “skateboard ministry” in number 1. Well, no time to watch all. Shall go write report until I pass out. Please, for goodness sake, I don’t endorse or agree with everything presented.. its just a documentary okay? watch at your own risk. haha..
This is where the term “Jesus Freaks” comes from.. the 70s hippie culture infused into chrisitanity. Its really quite funny when the Jesus looking guy (who knows what he looks like anyway?) says “I can’t imagine who else I’d want to look like”. He may look nuts.. but he’s spot on.. I mean, not jus the outer man, but the inner man. Again, I haven’t finished watching all.. peruse at your own risk!
