Sispec is fun man… nvr thought i’d ever ever think that. Had a navigation exercise which my detail couldn’t even find one check pt. Every direction was just trees trees and more trees… check pts are not prominent features, they are nailed on a board to a tree in the middle of a jungle! Was lau… spent the whole day just walking and walking. Lucky I was with my buddy, cos the other 2 guys were just plain unhelpful.
I must admit i love to freedom here, we are unsupervised when we topo so we can more or less do whatever we want. The 2 other guys smoked a ridiculous number of times when bashing in the jungle, we took off our helmets as an when we liked cos it was so hot… and we could rest whenever we wanted (although we din cos we needed to find the check pts). And yes… forgot to mention one thing… the cursed signal set! It weighed in at 11kg and had to be lugged around with this antenna thing that kept getting caught on branches overhead. passed it around but me and my bud carried it for total time of 6 hours out of 10. Its worse than a fully loaded field pack man… and i almost died carrying it. When i took it off i had phantom helmet and signal set syndrome… the thing still seems to be there and aches like mad. Sigh… at least i came back this week 2kg lighter! haha… now 78.5 already. Going down more i hope… din buy too much food to book in with. Spent over a hundred today getting a torch and a leatherman, have to tighten up my purse strings and save…
